In-Class Today: September 28

The following activities took place in class today:

1) Proofreading Practice: "The Petrified Forest" Day 4.

2) Add four new terms (and their definitions) to class set of Literature Cards: literal, figurative, direct metaphor, indirect metaphor

3) 11-1 ONLY: Begin Reading Section 4 of The House on Mango Street.

3) 11-2 ONLY: Completed Reading Section 3 of The House on Mango Street and questions 1-10 assigned fro completion for homework.

4) Introduce prompt for Model after Mango 3: Fitting In--On a sheet of loose leaf paper write a (2)-paragraph vignette in which you consider the following: Think about a time during which you felt uncomfortable in the shoes or clothes you were wearing. What were the circumstances? What did the clothes/shoes that you wore “say” about you? What about your shoes/clothing made you feel uncomfortable? How did you handle the situation? Utilize one example each of sensory detail, direct metaphor, indirect metaphor and repetition.
Homework:
a) 11-1 ONLY: The House on Mango Street Reading Assignment 4 and reading journal entries.

a) 11-2 ONLY: Reading Assignment 3 comprehension questions 1 thrhu 10.

b) Complete drafting Model After Mango 3 if necessary.
Remember, it is YOUR responsibility to see the teacher PRIOR to Advisement and arrange for a pass when you need assistance with any home/classwork.
